History of the Gurgel X-10 Xavante

A small off-roader

The X-10 Xavante was one of the compact jeeps in Gurgel’s X series, the line of small utilities that the company built after abandoning buggies on Volkswagen chassis. The name Xavante comes from an indigenous people of central Brazil, following the company’s habit of naming vehicles after Brazilian places and peoples.

Documentation

The model is recorded only briefly in the sources available: published references describe it as a compact jeep and little more, and no production figures, specifications or version list have been found. What can be said with confidence is its place in the range — a small, simply built off-roader in the same family as the X-12, with a plastic body over a steel frame, made for rural roads and light farm work.

Design and features

  • Compact size: a small, narrow body for tracks and farm work.
  • X-series family: the same design language as the X-12.
  • Plasteel body: glassfibre panels over a steel tube frame, the Gurgel trademark.

Gurgel X-10 Xavante versions

  • X-10 Xavante: the only version recorded in the sources used here.

The Xavante belonged to the same family as the X-12, and it led on to the larger Carajás. More cars are in the Gurgel collection.
