History of the Ford Visos

A Capri idea for 2003

The Visos was shown at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show as a three-door coupe with four seats, a shape that combined hatchback and fastback lines. Its side window line and the vent details were inspired by the old Ford Capri, the European coupe that Ford had stopped building in 1986.

A cabin from the future

The interior used a futuristic liquid crystal display dashboard developed with Sony, replacing conventional instruments. The seats were designed to contour automatically to the occupant’s body, giving a personalised sports seat in sport mode.

The powertrain

The Visos was powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six producing 350 hp and 400 Nm of torque, sending its power to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. It was a show car rather than a preview of a production model, but its technology pointed to ideas Ford explored in its European cars of the period.

Design and features

  • Capri-inspired details: the side window line and vents of the 1969 coupe.
  • Sony LCD dashboard: developed with Sony instead of conventional instruments.
  • Adaptive seats: contoured to the occupant in sport mode.
  • Strong powertrain: a 3.0 twin-turbo six of 350 hp driving all four wheels.

Ford Visos versions

  • Visos concept (2003): the single show car built for Frankfurt.

The Visos took its styling cues from the Capri and showed design ideas in the same period as the Iosis. More Ford vehicles are in the Ford collection.
