History of the Valmet 365

The Valmet 365 appeared in 1994, when Valmet’s tractor operations were being reorganised. In that year the Finnish state-owned company transferred its tractor business to a joint company with Sisu trucks, creating the Sisu-Valmet brand. The 365 carried the Valmet name at a time when the marque had already built a reputation for compact, manoeuvrable tractors suited to Nordic farms and forests.

The tractor used a three-cylinder engine of 3,300 cm³ developing 61 hp, with a 73-litre fuel tank. That made it a middle-weight machine in the Valmet range of the 1990s, below the six-cylinder models but above the smallest utility tractors.

In 1997 Sisu, including its tractor operations, was acquired by Partek, and in 1998 the brand name changed from Valmet to the transitional ValtraValmet before being shortened to Valtra in 2001. The 365 was produced under licence in India by Eicher Tractor for a few years beginning in 1997, which extended the life of the model well beyond its Finnish launch.

Valtra itself became part of the American AGCO Corporation in 2004. The Valmet 365 therefore sits at the end of the old Valmet line and at the beginning of the modern Valtra story.
