History of the Valmet 8150

The Valmet 8150 entered production in 1995, the year after Valmet’s tractor operations were transferred to a joint company with Sisu trucks. The new six-cylinder model combined a 6,598 cm³ turbocharged engine with an output of 125 hp, making it the most powerful tractor in the Valmet range at the time.

Its long production run spanned a period of ownership changes. In 1997 Sisu, including the tractor business, was acquired by Partek. In 1998 the brand name changed from Valmet to the transitional ValtraValmet, and in 2001 it was shortened to Valtra. The 8150 was therefore sold first as a Valmet, then as a ValtraValmet and finally as a Valtra, although the model itself remained in production until 2004.

The tractor was built at Suolahti, the Finnish plant to which Valmet had moved tractor production in 1969. In 2004, the year the 8150 went out of production, Valtra was sold by Kone Corporation to the American AGCO Corporation for EUR 600 million.

With a 165-litre fuel tank and a six-cylinder engine, the 8150 was intended for heavy field work and long days, and it closed the Valmet chapter of the company’s history on a high note.
