History of the Terex HR
The Terex name began in 1968 as a General Motors brand for construction equipment, after a court order forced GM to give up the Euclid off-highway truck business. GM coined it from the Latin terra (earth) and rex (king). After the sale to IBH, the return to GM and the creation of the independent Terex Corporation in the second half of the 1980s, the company grew largely by buying smaller equipment makers.
One of them was Schaeff. Karl Schaeff had founded the firm in 1937 as an agricultural machinery repair business in Langenburg; after the war it moved into attachments and then into construction machines. Schaeff built wheel loaders, backhoe loaders and mini excavators, and its best-known technical idea was the Knickmatik, a boom mounting that lets the arm be angled up to 90 degrees to either side for digging close to walls and obstacles.
Terex Deutschland took over Schaeff in 2002 and folded it into the group, keeping the Schaeff name on the compact machines. The HR 14 mini excavator belongs to that line; the video shows a machine at work. Terex was still selling the German compact range under its own name when this record was made, and the Schaeff works remained part of the group.

Terex HR versions
- HR 14: the mini excavator shown in the video.
- Schaeff-badged machines: the same range before and after the Terex takeover.
