The Terex 820 is a backhoe loader from the Terex Fermec range. Terex entered the backhoe loader business in 2001 by buying Fermec from CNH Global, and for a time the machines carried both names, as the photographs of an 820 at work in Bucharest show.

History of the Terex 820
Terex began in 1968 as a General Motors brand for construction equipment, created after a court order forced GM to abandon the Euclid off-highway truck business in the United States. The name came from the Latin terra (earth) and rex (king). GM sold the division to IBH in 1980, took it back in 1983, and in 1986 Randolph W. Lenz began assembling the independent Terex Corporation.

The backhoe loader line arrived with the purchase of Fermec from CNH Global in 2001. Fermec was a European maker of backhoe loaders, and its machines were sold for a period under the combined Terex Fermec name before the Terex badge alone became usual. The 820 is one of the larger models of that family, alongside the 760B and the 970.
The photographs show a Terex Fermec 820 digging a sewer trench in Bucharest in 2007, and the same machine from the rear; the video shows another 820 working in Riga. Backhoe loaders of this size were common on European street works, where one machine could dig, load and move material without a separate excavator and loader.
Design and features

- Backhoe loader layout: a front loader and a rear digging arm for trenching and loading.
- Street works: the photographs show the machine on sewerage work in Bucharest.
- European range: Terex obtained the line with Fermec in 2001.
Terex 820 versions
- Terex Fermec 820: the version in the Bucharest photographs, with both names.
