History of the Terex PT
Terex was created by General Motors in 1968 as a brand for construction equipment, after a court ruling forced GM to divest Euclid and stop selling off-highway trucks in the United States. The name came from the Latin terra (earth) and rex (king). The brand survived the sale to IBH, the return to GM and the creation of the independent Terex Corporation in the second half of the 1980s.
In the following decades Terex grew into a broad equipment group, buying makers of crushers, screens, cranes and compact machines. The PT series belongs to the compact end of that range: track loaders that carry their load in a front bucket and turn by driving their tracks at different speeds, the same principle as a skid-steer loader but with tracks instead of wheels.
The photograph shows a Terex PT-30. Machines of this size are used where a full-size loader cannot go: house plots, landscaping, narrow utility trenches and indoor or yard work. Terex sold the PT line alongside its larger construction and materials-handling equipment, and the PT-30 is the version shown here.
Design and features
- Compact track loader: a skid-steer layout on a tracked undercarriage.

Terex PT versions
- PT-30: the model in the photograph.
- PT series: the wider family of Terex compact track loaders.
- Wheeled skid-steer machines: the same layout on wheels rather than tracks.
- Terex compact equipment: the broader group of small machines sold by the company.
The Terex HR 14 mini excavator is another compact machine, and the Terex 760B shows the larger construction range. More machines are in the Terex collection.
