The Suzuki Gemma is a 250 cc scooter introduced as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007 and sold in Japan from 2008. Its layout is unusual: instead of the step-through frame of most scooters, it has a cargo compartment ahead of the rider and between the rider’s legs.

History of the Suzuki Gemma
A scooter without a step-through
The Gemma was first shown as a concept motorcycle at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007 and went on sale in Japan in 2008. It deliberately breaks the usual scooter formula: rather than a flat step-through floor, it has a cargo compartment in front of the rider and between the legs, a layout that puts the weight low and central.
The engine
Power comes from a 250 cc single-cylinder petrol engine shared with the Suzuki Burgman 250 scooter, giving the Gemma the same drivetrain as a proven maxi-scooter in a much more distinctive body.
Design and features
- Unusual packaging: a cargo box where a scooter normally has a step-through floor.
- Burgman 250 engine: a known 250 cc single.
- Japanese-only model: sold on the home market from 2008.
Suzuki Gemma versions
- Gemma (2008): the production scooter, in Japan only.
The Gemma shares its engine with the Burgman, and its city-scooter role overlaps with the Choinori. More Suzukis are in the Suzuki collection.
