History of the New Holland TM series

The top of the range around 2000

The TM series was where New Holland put its biggest conventional tractors in the years around 2000: machines of the class bought by large arable farms and contractors for ploughing, heavy cultivation and haulage. The models ran from the TM 115 to the TM 190 and were sold with a range of transmissions and cab specifications, including examples badged for other markets. Photographs of the series often show extra numbers in brackets after the model name, marking locally rated versions.

The years it was built in

These were the years in which New Holland became a single brand. After Ford bought Sperry New Holland in 1986 and Fiat bought 80 per cent of the business in 1991, the two tractor ranges were combined and sold for a while in Ford blue and Fiat terracotta red at the same time. The New Holland name was launched worldwide in 1996 at a convention in Orlando, Florida, and in 2000 every tractor was painted blue. In 1999 the company merged with Case to form CNH, later CNH Industrial.

The tractor in the film

The film below shows a TM 190 at work. It is a typical enthusiast’s record of the series: a big blue tractor earning its living on a European farm two decades after it was built. The sources used here do not give the series’ engines, powers or production years, and this page does not supply figures it cannot support.
