History of the MAN F2000
MAN and the French maker Saviem had a technical and sales partnership from 1967 to 1977, and Saviem supplied the cabs for the new F series. In France the same cab design was fitted to the Saviem SM Europe before MAN adopted it in Germany. Production of the F series began in 1967 and continued until 2000.

Generations
The range was renewed several times while keeping the same basic concept. The F8 of 1968 was followed by the F90 in 1986, the F2000 in 1994 and the E2000 around 1995; a facelifted F2000 Evo appeared in 1998 and the FE-A version was sold in Europe from 2000 to 2003. A short version of the cab-over truck was marketed as the M90. The F series was voted International Truck of the Year in 1987.
End of the line
The F series was replaced by the TG range, introduced in 1999, which began with the TGA. Production continued longer outside Germany: in Austria until 2003 and in South Africa, at Pinetown, until 2005. The truck was assembled in Munich and Vienna as well. In the F series naming, the numbers in names such as 19.403 or 22.321 give the gross vehicle weight in tonnes and the engine output in horsepower.
Design and features
- Saviem cab: the cab-over design came from MAN’s partnership with Saviem and was shared with the French Saviem SM Europe.
- Long life: one basic range stayed in production from 1967 to 2000 in Germany and for several more years in Austria and South Africa.
- Several generations: F8, F90, F2000, E2000, F2000 Evo and FE-A covered light-heavy to heavy haulage duties.
- Short M90: a short-cab version was sold under its own name.
MAN F2000 versions
- F8 (1968–1986): the first generation of the range.
- F90 (1986–1994): second generation and International Truck of the Year 1987.
- F2000 (1994–1998): third generation.
- E2000 (c. 1995–2003): related model sold alongside the F2000.
- F2000 Evo (1998–2005): facelifted version.
- FE-A (2000–2003): European version of the final generation.
- M90: short version of the cab-over truck.
- Numbered versions: names such as 19.403, 19.463 or 22.321 combine gross weight and engine output.
The F series was replaced by the MAN TGA, the first heavy truck of the TG range. The earlier five-tonne MAN 630 is described separately, and all MAN vehicles are in the MAN collection.
