The MAN NG272 was a low-floor articulated single-decker bus built by MAN Nutzfahrzeuge from 1990 until 1992, and continued as the NG272(2) until about 2000. It was the articulated development of the NL202.

History of the MAN NG272
MAN presented the NG272 in 1990 as the articulated development of the NL202, a year after the rigid bus, and both were built to the VöV standard bus rules. It followed the MAN SG242 and was MAN’s first low-floor articulated bus. Production continued until 1992, when the NG272(2) (A11) replaced it, based on the NL202(2). The new model changed the original pillar seat supports, which allowed the windows in the front section to be lowered, but otherwise remained visually very similar.

Design
Most NG272s had a MAN D2865 LUH engine in the rear, driving the rear axle through a Voith DIWA 864.4 or ZF 5HP fully automatic transmission. The fully low-floor articulated layout, three or four doors and a capacity of 51 seated and 60 standing passengers — 111 in total — made the type a good choice for inner-city operators. In the NG272(2), most buses used the same engine, though after 1995 new models received Euro 2 engines and became the NG262 and NG312.
Operators
In 1992 the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe ordered a batch of BVG-specification NG272(2) buses, the GN92 series. These had AEG Krüger full matrix displays, kneeling along the whole vehicle and a wheelchair lift, and ran alongside the EN92 series, which was of the MAN NL202(2) type. Most NG272, NG262 and NG312 buses have since been retired by transport companies and remain mainly in private ownership or abroad. The type also appears in the OMSI 2 bus simulator.
Design and features
- First low-floor articulated MAN: presented in 1990 as the articulated version of the NL202.
- High capacity: 51 seated and 60 standing passengers, with three or four doors.
- BVG GN92: Berlin buses with matrix displays, kneeling and a wheelchair lift.
- Euro 2 versions: the NG262 and NG312 from 1995.
MAN NG272 versions
- NG272 (1990–1992): the original low-floor articulated bus.
- NG272(2) (1992–1999/2000): the A11 generation with lower front windows.
- NG262 and NG312: Euro 2 versions from 1995.
- BVG GN92: Berlin specification with a wheelchair lift.
- OMSI 2: the type is included in the bus simulator.
The rigid version is the MAN NL202, and the earlier articulated bus the MAN SG220. More MAN buses are in the MAN collection.
