History of the Lexus LF-Ch

The LF-Ch was unveiled in September 2009 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The letters stand for Lexus Future-Compact hybrid, and the car was a five-door-sized hatchback with four doors, aimed at the compact premium class that Lexus had not yet entered.

Its exterior took a more aggressive reading of the L-finesse design language, with an arching roofline, a rear spoiler, a single-bar grille and rear door handles integrated into the bodywork. L-finesse was the philosophy created for the LF concepts under the ideas of Intriguing Elegance, Incisive Simplicity and Seamless Anticipation, and it later spread to all new production Lexus models.

The LF series began with the LF-X of 2003 and grew to include sports cars such as the LF-A and LF-LC, sedans such as the LF-S, LF-Sh and LF-Gh, crossovers such as the LF-Xh and the LF-C and LF-CC coupés. Several of the concepts came close to their production versions, and the compact hybrid idea of the LF-Ch reached the road as the CT 200h.

Design and features

  • Compact hybrid idea: the LF-Ch previewed a small premium hybrid rather than a large flagship.
  • L-finesse style: an arching roof, a rear spoiler and a single-bar grille expressed the design language of the LF concepts.
  • Hidden door handles: the rear handles were integrated into the bodywork for a cleaner side view.
  • Part of a family: the LF-Ch was one of a long line of LF concepts that shaped later production Lexus cars.

Lexus LF-Ch versions

  • LF-Ch (2009): the only version shown, a four-door compact hatchback concept.
  • CT 200h (2011): the production compact hybrid hatchback that followed the concept.

The LF-Ch belongs with the other Lexus design studies, the LF-LC coupé concept and the 2054 of Minority Report, and its production descendant is the CT 200h. More cars are in the Lexus collection.
