The Kymco Agility is not one scooter but a family of them, produced by the Taiwanese firm Kymco since 2005. The name has covered everything from a cheap 50 cc machine on 10-inch wheels to a 16-inch-wheeled commuter with a 200 cc fuel-injected engine, and the basic design has stayed in production for nearly two decades.

History of the Kymco Agility
Agility R10 and R12
The first Agility was shown at the Munich show in 2004 and went into production at Kymco’s Chinese factory in the first months of 2005. The R12 was a low-cost scooter with a flat floor and 12-inch wheels, aimed mainly at young buyers: it measured 1,830 mm long, 690 mm wide and 1,130 mm high on a 1,320 mm wheelbase, and weighed 92 kg dry. Its 50 cc four-stroke engine, air-cooled and Euro 2 compliant, produced 3.3 hp (2.4 kW) at 7,500 rpm and 3.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm, with electric starting and a top speed limited by law to 45 km/h. Braking was a 180 mm front disc with a 110 mm rear drum, and the declared consumption was 43 km/l in the combined cycle.

A 125 cc version joined it in September 2005 with 9.4 hp (6.9 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 9.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm, good for 85 km/h and a dry weight of 105 kg. A light update in 2006 moved the front indicators from the handlebar to the leg shield. The R12 was left alone for years: in 2016 the engine was brought to Euro 3 with power cut to 3 hp, and the R12 ECS arrived with an electronically controlled carburettor. A Euro 4 50 ECS followed in 2019 at 48 km/l, and in 2021 a new KN10A engine met Euro 5 with 3.3 hp, 3.4 Nm and 45 km/l. The Agility R10 was the smallest of the family, on 10-inch three-spoke wheels, 84 kg, 2.4 kW at 8,500 rpm and 3.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm, sold only as a 50 cc and later dropped in Italy.
Agility R16 and R16+
The R16 was presented at EICMA in November 2007 and went on sale in spring 2008, with Italian styling by Massimo Zaniboni of Arkema Studio and 16-inch five-spoke wheels. At launch it came as a 50, 125 or 150, all four-stroke, in anthracite, light blue, black and white. A spring 2009 update revised the suspension settings, and in June 2010 the 150 was replaced by a 200i with a 167 cc fuel-injected engine, while a two-stroke 50 joined the four-stroke 50.
A restyled R16 arrived in spring 2012 with a body-coloured front mudguard, silver alloy wheels, a blue instrument background and a new seat; the suspension springs and tyres were changed too. The R16+ was shown at EICMA in November 2013 and built from spring 2014 alongside the base R16: the rear wheel dropped from 16 to 14 inches for comfort and a bigger under-seat compartment, the front position lights became LEDs and the colours were matt anthracite, matt silver, ice white and black. In March 2017 the engines were homologated to Euro 4 and a 150 cc injection version with 10.2 hp and 11 Nm was added with ABS as standard. The 2021 range was Euro 5: the Agility 125i made 6.4 kW (8.7 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 85 km/h, and the Agility 200i R16+ had a 163 cc engine with 8.2 kW (11.2 hp) and 95 km/h.
Agility RS and Carry
The RS appeared in November 2008 and reached the market in 2009 with the same engine as the R12, 12-inch five-spoke wheels and the same frame, but with a redesigned front mudguard and bodywork and a “margherita” front disc. The Agility Carry was the work version, with the same 50 and 125 cc engines as the R12.
