History of the KamAZ-5410
The 5410 belongs to the first generation of KamAZ trucks and was created as a tractor unit and as a chassis for various superstructures. It shared its cab, engine and running gear with the flatbed KamAZ-5320 but carried a fifth wheel instead of a body, which made it the natural choice for long-distance haulage with a semi-trailer. It was built from 1976, the year the plant started series production, until 1997, when the KamAZ-54112 took its place on the line.
The specifications follow the family formula. The lorry weighs 6,700 kg empty, of which 3,350 kg rest on the front axle and 3,300 kg on the rear bogie, and its gross vehicle weight is 14,900 kg. Of that, 8,100 kg are carried on the fifth-wheel coupling, which allows a semi-trailer of 19,100 kg and a train weight of 25,900 kg. The engine is the KamAZ-740.10, a 10.85-litre V8 diesel of 154 kW, or 210 hp, and behind it sits a ten-speed gearbox made up of a five-speed main box and a two-speed splitter.
The cab is the familiar type over the engine, in this case with a sleeping place, and the wheels carry tubeless-type pneumatic tyres of 9.00R20 on disc-less rims. The tractor reaches 85 km/h, can climb an 18 per cent gradient and turns in 8.5 m, a tight figure for a three-axle vehicle that made it usable in towns as well as on trunk roads. The model also survives in miniature: the Elecon works in Kazan has made a 1:43 scale model of the 5410, and a red-and-white 1:43 model of the later KamAZ-54112 appeared in 2019 as number 42 of the DeAgostini partwork series «Avtolegendy SSSR Gruzoviki».

KamAZ-5410 versions
- KamAZ-5410: the standard tractor unit with a sleeper cab.
- KamAZ-5410 chassis: the same vehicle supplied as a chassis for special bodies.
