History of the Jeep Trailhawk

A concept that named a trim

The Trailhawk was a one-off show car, presented at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as a mid-size SUV concept. It did not go into production under that name. Instead, Jeep adopted Trailhawk as a badge: from then on, the name marked the off-road version of other models in the range, in the same way that the Trail Rated badge marks cars that have passed Jeep’s off-road tests.

Why the name stayed

Show cars usually vanish after their motor show season, but the Trailhawk name proved useful. It gave Jeep a single word for the toughest version of a model, and the Trailhawk badge has since appeared on several Jeep models rather than on one car.

Design and features

  • 2007 concept: a mid-size SUV show car, never produced as such.
  • Reused name: Trailhawk became a trim badge on later Jeep models.

Jeep Trailhawk versions

  • Trailhawk concept (2007): the show car.
  • Trailhawk badge: the trim name used on other Jeep models.

Another Jeep concept of the same period is the Hurricane, and the Trailhawk badge appears on models such as the Renegade and the Cherokee. More models are in the Jeep collection.
