History of the JAC Binyue

The Binyue was JAC’s first full-size sedan and the model that opened its passenger-car range. It was originally launched as the JAC Binyue C20, with prices from 88,800 to 149,700 yuan. Its exterior design was controversial, because the rear of the car was heavily inspired by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class of the W203 generation.

In 2011 JAC revealed a facelifted version called the Binyue C18. The main change was under the bonnet, where a new 1.8-litre engine replaced the old 2.0-litre unit. The original plan was to price the facelifted car from 95,900 to 139,800 yuan, but the final prices came in lower, at 91,800 to 132,800 yuan.

A separate prototype based on the Binyue, code-named the JAC HFC7200CL, was revealed after the initial launch with a restyled front fascia. Plans for its production were announced in October 2011, but the car remained a prototype and never reached the showroom. The Binyue itself continued to be sold under the Binyue and J7 names.
