History of the Irisbus Axer
Irisbus in the years of the Axer
Irisbus was created in January 1999 by the merger of the coach and bus divisions of Renault Véhicules Industriels with those of Fiat Industrial and Iveco, and the Hungarian manufacturer Ikarus was added late in the same year. When the Axer went into production in 2001, the company had just passed entirely to Iveco, and from 2003 to 2010 it traded as Irisbus Iveco. The range of those years was a mixture of inherited models: Iveco designs such as the EuroClass and the CityClass, Renault designs such as the Agora and the Ares, and newer types such as the Europolis.
Place in the range
The Axer sat among the intercity buses of the range, and it stayed in production until 2007. It was still listed among the old Irisbus models after the division was reorganised: in May 2013 the Irisbus name was retired and the business was rebranded as Iveco Bus, a division of Iveco based in Turin, with offices in Lyon, Watford and Mainz and its main plants at Annonay and Vysoké Mýto.
