History of the Hyundai Trago

The Trago has been built since October 2006 as Hyundai’s heavy-duty line, above the medium-duty Mega Truck. It is sold at home in Gold, an economy or high-power model, and Pro, an economy version, and most trucks carry a “Hyundai Truck” badge at the front with the Hyundai and Trago badges at the rear.

The range is built around two families. The cargo side goes from a 19-tonne 8×4 with a 380 or 410 hp engine and an ultra long wheelbase, through a 19.5-tonne 8×4 with a short wheelbase, to a 25-tonne 10×4 with a 440 hp engine. The dump trucks are 24 and 25.5-tonne 8×4 tippers with a 460 hp engine. The tractor units come as 6×2 with a 440 hp engine and as 6×4 with 380, 410 or 440 hp.

Engines deliver between 380 and 460 hp, with torque from 160 to 225 kg·m depending on the model. Gearboxes are ZF units with sixteen forward and two reverse ratios for the 8×4 cargo, 10×4 cargo, 8×4 dump and 6×2 tractor, while the lower-powered 6×4 tractor uses a ten-speed ZF with two reverse gears and the 410 and 440 hp versions a sixteen-speed.
