History of the Hyundai Mega Truck
The Mega Truck was Hyundai’s medium-duty range for the years after the light Mighty and below the heavy Trago. Its nearest rival in Korea and in export markets was the Kia Rhino. Most of the range can be recognised by a “Hyundai Truck” badge at the front, with the ordinary Hyundai badge usually at the rear, and the trucks were sold across Japan, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and South America as well as at home.
Production ran from 2004 to 2021 at Hyundai’s Jeonju commercial vehicle plant in Wanju County, and the range was built around the 4.5 and 5-tonne classes. The 4.5-tonne cargo came in short, long and ultra long wheelbases; the 5-tonne cargo added an ultra long plus version; and there was a 5-tonne dump truck on the short wheelbase. In July 2021 Hyundai replaced the Mega Truck with the Pavise, the medium-duty model it also revealed alongside the electric County.
