History of the Honda CHF50

Retro looks, modern parts

The CHF50 is one of several 49 cc scooters Honda has offered since the early 1960s, but it is notable for classic Vespa-inspired styling combined with modern mechanical parts.

Practical details

A lockable centre compartment below the seat can hold a helmet, though not a full-face one. Inside the compartment is a handle that locks the centre stand, making the scooter harder to roll away. The CHF50 shares its engine and drivetrain components with the Honda NPS50.

Names and return

The model was sold in the United States from 2002 to 2009 as the Metropolitan, and under the Jazz, Scoopy and Crea Scoopy names elsewhere. In 2013 the Metropolitan returned to the US range based on the fuel-injected, air-cooled NCH50 rather than the original CHF50.

Design and features

  • Classic styling: a Vespa-inspired body on a modern scooter.
  • Helmet compartment: lockable storage under the seat.
  • Lockable centre stand: an anti-theft detail inside the compartment.
  • Shared engine: the same drivetrain as the Honda NPS50.
