From the X4

The first CB1300 was released in February 1998. Its 1,284 cc engine came from the X4 of the previous year with minor modifications. In 2003 the bike received a slightly different engine without cooling fins; models built before that year, with the faux fins, were known internally as the SC40, and those after as the SC54.

Two versions

From 2005 Honda offered two versions: the standard unfaired model and the Super Bol d’Or, called the CB1300S in Europe, with a half fairing. The 2018 model, sold only in Japan, had performance and exhaust changes that brought power up to 109 hp. The 2021 model added a throttle-by-wire system with riding modes and cruise control.

Markets

The CB1300 has never been sold by authorised dealers in the United States or Canada, though gray-market importers brought in small numbers. A police variant, the CB1300P, based on the CB1300SB, is used mainly by Japanese law enforcement.

Design and features

  • 1,284 cc inline four: a large air-cooled standard engine derived from the X4.
  • Two generations: the finned SC40 before 2003 and the smoother SC54 after.
  • Bol d’Or half fairing: a touring version from 2005.
  • Modern updates: ride-by-wire, riding modes and cruise control from 2021.

Honda CB1300 versions

  • CB1300 Super Four (1998): the original unfaired model.
