The Gilera RCR and the Gilera SMT are two 50 cm³ motorcycles produced from 2003 to 2019 on the same mechanical base, derived from the Derbi Senda. The RCR is the enduro version and the SMT the motard, and both were aimed at Italian fourteen-year-olds who could ride them with an AM licence.

History of the Gilera RCR
One base, two characters
The SMT and the RCR were produced by Gilera from 2003 to 2019 with the same mechanical base, derived from the Derbi Senda, and intended for motard and enduro use. They were classified as mopeds and aimed at Italian fourteen-year-olds, who could ride them with an AM licence.
Both used a 49.9 cm³ liquid-cooled two-stroke engine approved to Euro 2, which from November 2017 was approved to Euro 4.
The two variants
The RCR is the enduro variant and the SMT the motard. Within the SMT there was also an SMT Racing version which, although it lacked the LED rear light and the multi-function digital instruments, stood out for its technical solutions: a 41 mm fork with 195 mm of travel, aluminium front suspension components and 17-inch wheels.
Design and features
- Derbi Senda base: the same mechanical platform as the Spanish enduro and motard 50.
- Two versions: the RCR for enduro and the SMT for motard use.
- Liquid-cooled two-stroke: 49.9 cm³, Euro 2 and later Euro 4.
- SMT Racing: 41 mm fork with 195 mm of travel and 17-inch wheels.
- AM licence: rideable from fourteen in Italy.
Gilera RCR versions
- RCR: the enduro version.
- SMT: the motard version.
- SMT Racing: the more technically equipped SMT.
The bigger Gilera off-road tradition is described with the RC 600, and the road moped of the same years is the Stalker. More models are in the Gilera collection.
