History
The GAZ-24 was developed to replace the GAZ-21 Volga of the 1950s. It was unveiled towards the end of 1967, and full-scale manufacturing started on 15 July 1970. Export sales began in 1971, and the car was shown at the London Motor Show in 1970.
The GAZ-24 remained the last mass-produced car of GAZ, and a successor was never developed. From 1985 the updated GAZ-24-10 was built until 1992.
