History of the Caterpillar 924G
A loader of the 924 line
The 924G was introduced in 2000 as a small wheel loader of the 924 series. It weighs up to 11,340 kg (25,000 lb) and is powered by a 6-litre 3056E engine of 137 hp (102 kW), a combination that puts it at the light end of Caterpillar’s wheel loader range, where machines are used for loading lorries, handling stock and clearing yards.

The Versalink boom
The 924G was the first loader in the 924 series to feature the one-piece Versalink boom. Compared with earlier designs the arm offered greater strength and a superior view for the operator, who sits behind it and watches the bucket work. The model stayed in production until 2008, when the 924H replaced it.
Design and features
- One-piece Versalink boom: the first in the 924 series, stronger and with a better view than earlier arms.
- Compact size: up to 11,340 kg, small enough for yards and urban sites.
- 3056E engine: 6 litres and 137 hp (102 kW).
- Clear successor: replaced by the 924H in 2008.
Caterpillar 924G versions
- 924G (2000–2008): the standard machine with the Versalink boom.
- 924G in service: machines of the type are still at work, as the photographs here show.
- 924H: the model that replaced the 924G in 2008.
The 924G is the small wheel loader of the range, at the other end from the Caterpillar 930G; tracked machines such as the 345C L are covered separately, and more of them are in the Caterpillar collection.
