History of the Caterpillar 313

Caterpillar Inc. is an American manufacturer of construction, mining and other engineering equipment and the largest maker of construction equipment in the world. Its excavators are sold under the 300 series, and the 313 is one of the smallest of them; the machine runs on tracks rather than wheels.

Dimensions

The body of the 313 is 2.49 m wide. The height of the cab reaches 2.81 m and depends on which arm is fitted, and the length of the machine follows the equipment on the front, running between about 7 m and 8 m. The air-conditioning system uses R134a refrigerant: it holds 0.85 kg of gas, equal to 1.216 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Versions

Two other versions are named beside the standard machine: the 313 GC and the 313F L GC, which was produced from 2015 to 2021.

Design and features

  • Compact width: 2.49 m across the body, narrow enough for streets and yards.
  • Cab up to 2.81 m: the roof height depends on the arm that is fitted.
  • Climate control: the air conditioning holds 0.85 kg of R134a, equal to 1.216 t of CO2.
  • Length 7–8 m: the overall figure depends on the attachment at the front.

Caterpillar 313 versions

  • 313: the standard machine described here.
  • 313 GC: a further version of the same model.
  • 313F L GC: built from 2015 to 2021.

The 313 is the small tracked machine below the Caterpillar 345C L; wheel loaders and tractors of the company are in the Caterpillar 930G article and in the Caterpillar collection.
