The Cadillac STS, short for Seville Touring Sedan, was a mid-sized luxury sedan built from 2004 to 2011 for the 2005 to 2011 model years. It replaced the front-wheel-drive Seville with a rear-wheel-drive car on the Sigma platform, and it was the flagship sedan of the Cadillac range.

History of the Cadillac STS
The front-wheel-drive Seville was retired in 2004 and replaced by the STS, which used the rear-wheel-drive GM Sigma platform and kept the Seville’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension. It was the first Cadillac sedan offered with all-wheel drive, identified by an STS4 badge on the boot lid and by a narrower front passenger footwell to make room for the transfer case. The car was built alongside the smaller CTS at Lansing Grand River in Michigan. Its overall length was 5 inches shorter than the Seville, yet the wheelbase grew by 4 inches to 116.4 inches, giving more interior space.

Engines and trim
The STS came with a 3.6-litre High Feature V6 of 255 hp or the 4.6-litre Northstar V8 of 320 hp, both with double overhead cams and variable valve timing, through a six-speed automatic with driver shift control. Remote ignition and a push-button starter borrowed from the Corvette C6 were standard. Cadillac offered six trims, from STS V6 to STS V8 Premium Luxury Performance, with a heads-up display and adaptive cruise control package, a 15-speaker Bose 5.1 surround system with an in-dash six-disc DVD changer – the first car to offer one – and ventilated front seats on the top trim.
STS-V and the later years
The STS-V arrived at the 2005 Detroit show with a supercharged 4.4-litre Northstar V8 producing 469 hp and 439 lb-ft, a driver-adjustable automatic, Brembo brakes, 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, Pirelli run-flat tyres and a quicker steering ratio. It reached 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and was not offered with all-wheel drive. A 2008 update brought a larger grille, chrome fender vents, a revised interior and a direct-injection 3.6-litre V6 of 302 hp, with optional lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. The V8 was dropped for 2011, the last year of the model; a version was also sold in China as the SLS until 2013.

- All-wheel drive option: the first Cadillac sedan with it, badged STS4.
- Magnetic Ride Control: carried over from the Seville.
- In-car entertainment: the first car with an in-dash six-disc DVD changer, in the Luxury Performance trims.
