The Cadillac Imaj was a luxury liftback concept car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2000. It carried forward Cadillac’s Art and Science design language, with the sharp edges of the Evoq concept shown a year earlier, and packed in technology that no production Cadillac offered.

History of the Cadillac Imaj
The Imaj followed the Evoq concept of 1999 and continued Cadillac’s Art and Science theme: sharp edges, crisp surfaces and a wedge-shaped profile. It was shown at Geneva in 2000 as a liftback, a body style no Cadillac then offered, and it was finished as a fully equipped luxury car rather than a bare design study.
Technology in the cabin
The infotainment system was a Delphi installation using IBM ThinkPads and monitors to provide internet, fax, navigation and services, with LCD screens built into the dashboard and a dual-function head-up display. Safety and security equipment included fingerprint-based biometric security, night vision, driving aids, radar parking alerts and adaptive cruise control. The interior had first-class seating with ventilated front and rear seats, articulating footrests for the rear passengers and adjustable pedals, and the accessories included all-aluminium baggage and a fine clock from Bvlgari.
Mechanical specification
Under the bonnet sat a 4.2-litre 32-valve supercharged Northstar V8 producing 425 hp, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The car had a StabiliTrak active suspension, Brembo brakes and Goodyear EMT run-flat tyres. Like most Cadillac show cars of the period, the Imaj previewed ideas that reached production in softened form rather than the car itself.
Design and features
- Supercharged Northstar: a 4.2-litre V8 with 425 hp, well above the production Northstar’s output.
- ThinkPad infotainment: internet, fax and navigation through Delphi hardware with in-dash LCD screens.
- Biometric security: fingerprint recognition as part of the car’s security system.
- Bvlgari details: a fine clock and all-aluminium luggage among the interior accessories.
Cadillac Imaj versions
- Imaj concept (2000): the single show car, a four-seat luxury liftback.
The Imaj carried the Art and Science themes into a luxury liftback, as the Cien did for a supercar and the CTS for production sedans. More Cadillacs are in the Cadillac collection.
