History of the Alpine A110-50
The A110-50 has an all-carbon-fibre body, a mid-engine layout and a tubular frame, built on the same platform as, and sharing its mechanicals with, the Sport Mégane Trophy race car. Because its height is lower than that of the Mégane Trophy, the roll cage and the bracing in the engine bay were lowered in the workshop of Tork Engineering. The car weighs 880 kg.
The front splitter and rear diffuser generate ground effect and account for a third of the downforce, while the other two-thirds come from the rear wing. The body can be raised with integrated pneumatic jacks for easier servicing, and the steering wheel has a colour screen using the same technology as a Formula Renault 3.5 single-seater. Designer Yann Jarsalle and the Concept and Show Car Director Axel Breun based the car on the design language introduced with the DEZIR concept, but included several cues from the original A110, such as half-domed additional headlights with yellow-tinted LED lighting and air intakes echoing the ducts on the rear wheel arches of the Berlinette.
