History of the Yamaha Vino

The Vino 125 was introduced in 2004 as a larger version of the 49 cc Vino and Vino Classic. It replaced the Yamaha Riva 125 (XC125) in the range and, apart from colour choices, changed very little during its production life. Its low seat height made it popular with smaller riders.

The scooter is powered by an air-cooled 124 cc single-cylinder four-stroke SOHC engine with a fan for extra cooling. A Mikuni BS carburettor with an automatic choke and a carburettor heat device feeds the engine, while emissions are controlled by a catalysed muffler, an air injection system and an evaporative fuel canister. Braking is by a 180 mm front disc and a 110 mm rear drum, and the tyres are 3.50 by 10 inches.

Because of its engine size and top speed, the Vino 125 requires a motorcycle licence in many American states. It was sold in the United States until 2009 and in Canada until 2010. The model has a very similar counterpart in Thailand called the Fino, which looks almost identical. The Vino 125 can be distinguished from the smaller Vino 50 by its greater width, a more substantial rear luggage rack and a large rear hand-holding rail.

Design and features

  • Retro styling: a rounded body inspired by classic scooters.
  • 124 cc four-stroke: economical running with enough power for city traffic.
  • Low seat: easy to handle for shorter riders.
  • Clean emissions: catalysed muffler, air injection and an evaporative canister.

Yamaha Vino versions

  • Vino 125 (2004–2010): the main model, sold in the US and Canada.
  • Vino 50 and Vino Classic: smaller 49 cc siblings.
  • Yamaha Fino: Thai counterpart with almost identical styling.

The Vino is related to the Fino and replaced the earlier Yamaha Riva. More models are in the Yamaha collection.
