History of the WSK M21W2 Dudek

From drawing board to Poznań

Work on the motorcycle began in 1970. The W2 Dudek belonged to the 175 cm³ class and used the series 059 engine in its third version, a modernised development of the W2 engine, rated at 11 kW. The model was presented at the autumn edition of the Poznań Fair in 1974, and series production started a year later, in 1975.

Styled for the American look

The Dudek was meant to stand out among the other models of the “bird family”. Its high Harley-type handlebar with a cross brace, together with a double seat whose passenger section could be lifted to leave a single seat with a backrest, gave it the look of a small custom. It also had indicators worked from a switch by the throttle grip and shallow chrome mudguards. The motorcycle was built in different versions depending on the country to which it was exported, and production ended in 1977 after three years.

Design and features

  • High handlebar: a Harley-style bar with a cross brace, the model’s trademark.
  • Convertible seat: the passenger part could be raised to make a single seat with a backrest.
  • Modernised 059 engine: the third version of the series, 11 kW in the 175 cm³ class.
  • Chrome mudguards: shallow, in the custom style of the mid-1970s.
