History of the Van Hool AG300

The AG300 is the articulated member of Van Hool’s A-series of city buses. The company, a Belgian coachbuilder and manufacturer of buses and coaches, used the same design philosophy across the transit range, and the AG300 carried it into the articulated class. Two versions existed: the original AG300 and the restyled newAG300. The buses were delivered to operators in several countries.

Besides the standard diesel-engined bus, Van Hool supplied AG300s running on natural gas as the AG300 CNG and built a trolleybus version, the AG300T. The articulated AG300 also stood at the head of a larger family: the A300 page lists a double-articulated AGG300 alongside it.

Design and features

  • Articulated low floor: a jointed bus with level access for high-capacity city routes.
  • Two designs: the original AG300 and the restyled newAG300 were both catalogued.
  • Natural gas: the AG300 CNG offered an alternative to diesel.
  • Trolleybus version: the AG300T was built for operators with overhead wires.
  • Part of the A-series: it shared Van Hool’s transit bus design philosophy with the A300 and A308.

Van Hool AG300 versions

  • AG300: the original articulated bus.
  • newAG300: the version with the restyled front and newer design.
  • AG300 CNG: natural-gas version.
  • AG300T: trolleybus version.

The AG300 is the articulated relative of the Van Hool A300 and the compact A308. More buses are in the Van Hool collection.
