History of the Van Hool A600

The A600 replaced the A120 in Van Hool’s city bus range. It was available as a two-door and as a three-door bus. In 2001 the type received a makeover: from then on the buses were delivered in Van Hool’s new design with the type designation newA600.

The A600 was used widely in Belgium, where both the national transport companies and private bus operators took examples into their fleets. In total around fifty were exported. In 2004, for the Minder Hinder programme, several examples from Antwerp were lent by De Lijn to various operators.

Design and features

  • Two or three doors: the A600 could be ordered in either layout.
  • Replacement for the A120: it continued Van Hool’s standard city bus line.
  • New design from 2001: updated buses carried the newA600 designation.
  • Belgian workhorse: used by national companies and private operators across the country.
  • Small export run: around fifty buses were sold abroad.

Van Hool A600 versions

  • A600: the original version with two or three doors.
  • newA600: the 2001 makeover in the new Van Hool design.
