The UAZ Simbir, or UAZ-3162, was produced at Ulyanovsk from 2000 to 2005. It was named after Simbirsk, the old name of the city, and it was a completely new model in relation to the UAZ-469: in effect a rebodied, long-wheelbase UAZ-3160 with its Spicer axles. The UAZ Patriot took its place.

History of the UAZ Simbir
A new platform
The Simbir grew out of the UAZ-3160, the first prototype of which left the line on 5 August 1997. Unlike the Hunter, which was a rework of the 1985 UAZ-31514, the 3160 was a new design with a different body and Spicer axles, so the Simbir was not a development of the UAZ-469 at all.
Production, 2000–2005
The first production Simbir was built on 27 April 2000; it had the long wheelbase and the new Spicer axles of the 3160. In 2003 the car was awarded zero stars out of a possible four by the Russian ARCAP safety assessment programme. A pickup version, the UAZ-2360, was made in small numbers in 2004 and 2005 with a payload of about 1,000 kg. Production of the Simbir ended in 2005, when the UAZ Patriot replaced it in the range.
