History of the UAZ Patriot
Launch
The Patriot was introduced in 2005 and replaced the older UAZ Simbir. Built by the UAZ division of Sollers in Ulyanovsk, it was a body-on-frame SUV with extensive use of newer parts, a large carrying capacity, good off-road capabilities and an affordable price below US$5,000 — enough to sell 12,011 units in 2007. It seats five adults, and the specification lists a cargo capacity of 800 kg.
Updates, 2011–2014
In October 2011 UAZ released a limited edition for the plant’s 70th anniversary, with different exterior and interior trim. In May 2012 the car was restyled: a new dashboard without the passenger grab handle, a safer four-spoke steering wheel from Takata-Petri, a 2DIN media player and a USB socket for flash drives. In August 2013 the Patriot received a new Dymos transfer case with electronic control. The facelift of 2014 brought new bumpers, headlights and seats, an optional multimedia system with navigation and a reversing camera, chassis improvements, a new turbocharger for the diesel and switchgear taken from the Opel Astra J and Astra K.
Versions
The diesel Patriot, first the 31631 and later the 31638, used the 2.3-litre 116 hp IVECO F1A turbodiesel to Euro-3, with a top speed of 145 km/h and 9.5 l/100 km; from 2012 the 31638 used the Russian ZMZ-51432 to Euro-4. The Cargo (23602-050) of 2008 is a commercial pickup on the 3163 with a 3,000 mm wheelbase and a shortened two-seat cab. The Pickup (23632), sold from August 2008, has four doors, five seats, the same 3,000 mm wheelbase and a payload of 725 kg. The Patriot Sport (3164) appeared on 1 July 2010: its wheelbase is 360 mm shorter at 2,400 mm, the length is 4,287 mm and the boot holds 960 litres, with either the 128 hp ZMZ-40904 or the 112 hp ZMZ-4091 and a five-speed Dymos gearbox. In August 2017 the family gained the Profi, a commercial pickup with a 3,500 mm wheelbase, one- or two-row cabs and a 147 hp ZMZ-409051.
