History of the Suzuki GZ series

Cruisers for beginners

The GZ series arrived in 1998 as Suzuki’s small cruiser line. The bikes are based primarily on the GN series and use air-cooled single-cylinder engines with chain drive, with instrumentation that includes a speedometer, an odometer with trip meter, high-beam and indicator lights and a gear position indicator. Like the GN models, they were designed to be easy to ride for beginners.

The GZ250 and Marauder

The 249 cc GZ250 makes 19.72 hp at 8,000 rpm from a carburetted engine with a 72 by 61.2 mm bore and stroke. It has a five-speed gearbox, a 680 mm seat height, weighs 150 kg and carries 13 litres of fuel in a cruiser-styled body. The Marauder name was used on the same family, and the GZ125 Marauder and GZ250 Marauder are part of the range.

Smaller and bigger versions

The GZ125 has a 125 cc carburetted engine of about 9.86 hp with a 15.9-litre tank, and the GZ150 of 2012 moved to fuel injection, 149.5 cc, 15.42 hp and a smaller 11.5-litre tank.

Design and features

  • Low seat: 680 mm on the GZ250, friendly to shorter riders.
  • Simple single: air-cooled SOHC engine with chain drive.
  • Beginner equipment: gear position indicator and light controls.
  • Three sizes: 125, 150 and 250 cc versions.

The GZ series grew out of the GN250, and the modern equivalent is the TU250. More Suzukis are in the Suzuki collection.
