History of the Suzuki Crosscage

A hydrogen study

The Crosscage is a design and engineering study rather than a production motorcycle. Its drivetrain combines an AC synchronous electric motor with an air-cooled polymer electrolyte fuel cell, a 35 MPa hydrogen reservoir and a high-performance lithium-ion battery that buffers the fuel cell’s output. Suzuki quotes a range of 200 km, and has not said when, or whether, the machine will be built.

Design and features

  • Fuel cell instead of a tank of petrol: an air-cooled PEFC stack generates electricity on board.
  • High-pressure hydrogen: stored at 35 MPa.
  • Battery buffer: a lithium-ion pack smooths the power delivery.
  • 200 km range: Suzuki’s figure for the concept.

Suzuki Crosscage versions

  • Crosscage concept: the only version shown so far.

Suzuki has also shown the Stratosphere concept motorcycle, and its production scooters include the Burgman. More Suzukis are in the Suzuki collection.
