History of the Renault Frendzy
A van for both work and family
The Frendzy was designed by Renault for the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show as a leisure activity vehicle of roughly Kangoo size. Its concept was the work of Renault’s design chief Laurens van den Acker, with the exterior design credited to Deyan Denkov.

Electric running gear
The show car was based on the Renault Kangoo Z.E. and used an electric motor developing 59 bhp, or 44 kW, fed by a lithium-ion battery pack. That made it part of Renault’s early electric range, which by then already included production versions of the Kangoo and the Fluence.
Design and features
- Kangoo Z.E. base: a production electric van underneath a show-car body.
- 59 bhp electric motor: modest power aimed at urban and delivery work.
- Lithium-ion battery: the same chemistry as Renault’s production electric cars of the period.
- Show-car design: van practicality with a family-oriented concept.
Renault Frendzy versions
- Frendzy (2011): the single concept vehicle.
The Frendzy was built on the Renault Kangoo Z.E., and Renault’s electric range also includes the Renault Zoe. Other concepts are on the DeZir and R-Space pages; more Renaults are in the Renault collection.
