The New Holland TD series is the value end of the company’s utility tractors: simple, sturdy machines without the electronics of the big T7 and T8 models, sold in large numbers in Turkey, Poland, Italy and around the Mediterranean. The sources used for this page describe the company and its factories, not the series.

History of the New Holland TD series

Where the TD tractors come from

New Holland’s utility tractors are a European story rather than an American one. The Türk Traktör joint venture with the Koç group, signed in 1998, took over a factory in Ankara that had built Fiat tractors since the 1967 joint venture with Fiat, and that plant became one of the group’s main sources of simple, affordable tractors. Around the same time New Holland bought Bizon of Płock in Poland, which held around 60 per cent of the Polish combine market, and kept a European spread of plants that includes Jesi and Lecce in Italy.

What the TD series is for

The TD models are working tractors: two- or four-wheel drive utility machines that pull trailers, run loaders and do the haulage and yard work of a mixed farm without the cost or complexity of a high-power tractor. The family has been sold in many versions and numbers, including models such as the 5030 that are known by their TD designation rather than the bare number. The sources used here do not list the series’ engines, powers or production years, and this page does not invent them.

The range above it

Above the TD class sit the New Holland T5, T6, T7, T8 and T9 tractors, with the model code introduced around 2016 stating the class and the power in the name. All of them are now part of CNH Industrial, the group formed when New Holland and Case merged in 1999, with its administrative headquarters in Turin and New Holland, Pennsylvania, as the North American base.

Design and features

  • Value class: simple utility tractors rather than high-technology machines.
  • European production: built in a group with factories in Turkey, Poland and Italy.
  • Wide use: haulage, loader work and mixed-farm jobs.
  • Long family: many models and versions have carried the TD name.

New Holland TD series versions

  • New Holland TD 80: a mid-sized model of the family, shown in the photo on this page.
  • New Holland TD 5030: a TD-badged utility model sold in Poland.
  • T5 tractors: the class that covers similar work today.

One TD model is described on the New Holland 5030 page, and the modern range on the New Holland T series page. More machines are in the New Holland section.
