The Modenas CT is a series of underbone motorcycles launched in 2009 as the legitimate successor to the Kriss. Its 110 and 100 cc engines came from the Kriss range, but the design was developed in-house by Modenas, and at the time of launch the 5.3-litre fuel tank was claimed to be the largest among underbone motorcycles.

History of the Modenas CT
Successor to the Kriss
Modenas had tried once before to replace the Kriss: the Kristar of 2004 used the same engine in a new body but lasted only two years because buyers did not take to it. The CT series, launched on 23 October 2009 in 110 cc form, was the second and successful attempt. It kept the 100 and 110 cc engines of the Kriss unchanged, with one addition: a decompression mechanism on the 110 cc model to make starting easier.
An in-house design
Where the Kriss had been a Kawasaki Kazer with different styling, the CT was a new design developed in-house by Modenas, with the exception of the AN110 engine developed by Kawasaki. The 100 cc model followed on 13 February 2010, using the MB100 engine derived from the Kriss 100. Both versions carried the same 5.3-litre fuel tank, which Modenas claimed was the largest among underbone motorcycles at the time; that claim stood until the Honda Future 125 of 2012.
Electric and injected versions
The CT platform also carried Modenas into two new areas. In 2011 the CTric, an electric version of the CT, became the first all-electric motorcycle sold in Malaysia. In 2013 the fuel-injected version of the CT was launched in Greece as the Modenas Kriss 125i EFI, using the larger 120 cc engine with fuel injection and a lambda sensor supplied by Synerject; the same model was launched at home as the Modenas 118EFI during the DRB-Hicom Autofest in Penang on 30 July 2013, at RM4,755. The CT series and the GT128 together won the 2011 Malaysia Good Design Mark in the public area and transport category.
Design and features
- In-house bodywork: the first Modenas underbone designed by the company itself rather than derived from a Kawasaki model.
- Large tank: 5.3 litres, claimed the biggest in the underbone class when the CT appeared.
- Proven engines: the 110 and 100 cc units carried over from the Kriss, with easier starting on the 110.
- Platform for new models: the same base was used for the electric CTric and the fuel-injected 118EFI.
Modenas CT versions
- CT110 (2009): the first version, with the AN110-derived engine and a decompression mechanism.
- CT100 (2010): the 100 cc model with the MB100 engine from the Kriss 100.
- CTric (2011): electric version, the first electric motorcycle sold in Malaysia.
- Kriss 125i EFI (2013): fuel-injected CT for Greece, with the 120 cc engine.
- 118EFI (2013): the same fuel-injected model for Malaysia, at RM4,755.
The CT replaced the Kriss series and shares its platform with the electric CTric. The sportier GT128 of 2009 used a related chassis. More machines are in the Modenas collection.
