History of the Mahindra Maxx
The Maxx (also written MaXX) arrived in 2001 in the form of a nine- or ten-seat station wagon, taking the place of the earlier Armada Station Wagon in Mahindra’s range. From September 2003 the same mechanical package was offered as a pick-up, sold as the Maxx maxitruck or Maxx Pik Up, and a better-equipped wagon version was added as the Maxx LX.

The two-door pick-up used a 2.5-litre inline-four diesel engine, either naturally aspirated with 58 hp and 180 Nm or turbocharged with 63 hp and 200 Nm. The regular Maxx had leaf-spring suspension at both front and rear, drum brakes all round and a four-speed manual transmission; later versions received disc brakes at the front and other improvements.
Mahindra took the Maxx out of production in 2010, by which time the Bolero had become the company’s main utility wagon.
Design and features
- Seating for nine or ten: a wagon aimed at families and rural transport rather than private buyers.
- Off-road chassis: leaf springs at both ends and optional four-wheel drive.
- Two engine states: 58 hp naturally aspirated or 63 hp turbocharged from the same 2.5-litre four.
- Pick-up derivative: the Maxx Pik Up and maxitruck from 2003.
Mahindra Maxx versions
- Maxx wagon: the nine- or ten-seat station wagon.
- Maxx LX: the better-equipped wagon.
- Maxx Pik Up / maxitruck: a two-door pick-up from September 2003.
The Maxx replaced the Armada and shared its role with the Bolero, whose pick-up versions were its closest relatives. More in the Mahindra collection.
