History of the Mahindra Rodeo

The Rodeo was one of three scooters that Mahindra began producing in 2009. It was a 125 cc gearless power scooter, and Mahindra drew on outside help for it: technological and design input came from Taiwan’s SYM and from Italy’s Engines Engineering.

The scooter was fitted with telescopic front suspension, a tachometer and a digital console that included a trip meter, a clock and a USB socket for charging a mobile phone.

In June 2012 Mahindra two wheelers unveiled the Rodeo RZ, a new version with higher ground clearance, an advanced telescopic suspension and better fuel economy among other changes. In August 2014 the company added the Rodeo UZO to the range.

Design and features

  • Outside design help: input from SYM of Taiwan and Engines Engineering of Italy.
  • Digital instruments: tachometer plus a console with trip meter and clock.
  • Phone charging: a USB socket built into the console.
  • Telescopic forks: the suspension layout used across the range.

Mahindra Rodeo versions

  • Rodeo (2009–): the original 125 cc gearless scooter.
  • Rodeo RZ (2012–): higher ground clearance, revised telescopic suspension, better mileage.
  • Rodeo UZO (2014–): the later addition to the range.

The Rodeo was one of Mahindra’s first two-wheelers, a business quite separate from the CJ jeeps and the Bolero. More in the Mahindra collection.
