History of the Lada Priora
The Priora was launched in March 2007 as a largely restyled and modernised version of the Lada 110, and it took over from that car in 2009. By 16 May 2012, 590,000 Prioras had been produced. In 2014 the Lada Vesta was unveiled at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, and production of the Vesta began in September 2015. From 2016 the Priora was withdrawn from foreign markets and was no longer available for export, though it continued to be built in Russia.

Body styles
The range opened with the VAZ-2170 sedan, built from March 2007 to July 2018. The VAZ-2172 five-door hatchback and the three-door 2172 Coupé based on it followed in early 2008, and the VAZ-2171 estate arrived in May 2009; both the hatchback and the estate ended production in 2015. The VAZ-21708 Priora Premier was a long-wheelbase sedan with an extra 175 mm, built in small numbers by AvtoVAZ partner ZAO Super-Avto and equipped with a 120 hp 1.8-litre VAZ-21128 engine from autumn 2008.
Updates
In June 2011 AvtoVAZ announced a 90 hp version with a lighter engine and a service life of up to 200,000 km, together with a new front bumper, rear-view mirrors and steering wheel. In August 2011 a Priora CNG running on petrol and compressed natural gas was announced, with a 43-litre petrol tank and four gas tanks of 96 litres; the range was 580 km on petrol and 330 km on gas. In April 2010 a multimedia system was added to the options list, followed by a navigation system in early 2011. Electronic stability control and a fully automatic transmission were never offered.
The basic Priora came with a driver’s airbag and electric power steering. From May 2008 the Lux package added a passenger airbag, front side airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, ABS and parking sensors, and some packages included climate control, Bluetooth audio, heated front seats, automatic headlamps and a rain sensor. A 1.6-litre sixteen-valve engine was coupled to a new transmission designed for 145 N·m. The 1.8-litre car reached 190 km/h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds, while the 1.6 AMT of 2014 with 106 hp used an automated manual gearbox with ZF electro-hydraulic actuators.
Motorsport and the end
The LADA Sport team contested the latter part of the 2009 World Touring Car Championship with three Prioras, having started the season with Lada 110s. In the 2007 ARCAP frontal crash test the car scored 5.4 points out of 16 and one star; a newer version scored 10.6. On 22 May 2018 AvtoVAZ announced the end of Priora saloon production by July 2018; the hatchback and estate had already stopped in 2015, as the sedan accounted for over 80 percent of sales. The last car left the Tolyatti plant in July 2018 under a poster reading «Последний!» («Last!»), and the discontinuation was confirmed on 17 July 2018.
