History of the Lada Largus
After the VAZ-2104 was removed from production in 2012, AvtoVAZ no longer had an inexpensive and roomy station wagon: the Kalina and Priora estates were better equipped and much more expensive. The Largus became the first joint project between AvtoVAZ and Renault-Nissan, with an investment of $550 million, and part of a larger plan to build five models in Russia on the Dacia B0 platform. Total production in 2012 was expected to reach 27,000 cars, mostly Largus.

The car was produced in a full-cycle production unit and equipped with air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, two front airbags, five or seven seats, Bluetooth hands-free and an MP3 player. It came as a passenger MPV and as a high-capacity panel van, each with a 1.6-litre eight-valve engine of 84 hp or a sixteen-valve unit of 105 hp, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The only significant changes from the original Dacia were the grille, front bumper, quarter-panel lining and headlights.
On 4 April 2012 AvtoVAZ launched Largus production at a ceremony attended by Vladimir Putin, who toured the plant and signed the first car. Sales began on 16 July 2012, the panel van followed in August 2012 and the Cross version was launched in 2015. In 2016, for the plant’s 50th anniversary, AvtoVAZ presented the Largus Cross Black Edition with black wheels, roof and side mirrors.
Facelift and versions
In 2021 an updated Largus was introduced in two passenger versions called the Universal and the Cross, while the van was renamed the Furgon. The 1.6-litre engines remained in eight- and sixteen-valve form with slightly more power, now 90 and 106 hp. The passenger estate is offered with five or seven seats; the five-seater has a 560-litre boot, while in the seven-seater it is only 135 litres. The F90 van has solid metal rear and side panels. The CNG version began production in January 2019 but its issue was temporarily suspended in 2021. AvtoVAZ also sells special models such as wheelchair vans, cargo trucks, refrigerated vans, workshops, ambulances and taxis.
e-Largus
In December 2022 experimental production of the electric e-Largus began in Izhevsk. It is planned in both passenger and commercial van form, with 50 percent of components from Russian manufacturers. Its 110 kW (150 hp) motor can drive the car up to 145 km/h, and the battery capacity is 60 kWh.
