The Irisbus Europolis was an integrally constructed low-floor midibus able to carry 49 passengers, produced by Irisbus, now Iveco Bus. It was one of the smaller vehicles of the range, meant for cities where a full-size 12-metre bus is too large, and it was developed by the Italian bodybuilder Cacciamali.

History of the Irisbus Europolis

A midibus for the Irisbus range

The Europolis joined the range when Irisbus was formed in 1999 from the merger of the bus divisions of Renault and Iveco. Unlike the CityClass or the Agora, which Irisbus inherited from its parent companies, the Europolis was developed by the Italian bodybuilder Cacciamali, and it was built as an integral vehicle rather than a body on a separate chassis. It was a low-floor midibus carrying 49 passengers, a size aimed at routes where a standard bus would be too big.

Where it ran

Cities whose transport companies used the Irisbus Europolis include Rome, Reggio Calabria, Cagliari and Terni in Italy, Lyon in France, Pula in Croatia and Thessaloniki in Greece, where 22 buses were put into service. Production ran until 2010, and the type remained in the lists of old Irisbus models after the division was renamed Iveco Bus in 2013.

Design and features

  • Low-floor midibus: easier boarding in narrow streets and on lighter routes.
  • 49 passengers: a capacity between that of a minibus and a full city bus.
  • Integral construction: a purpose-built body rather than a chassis conversion.
  • Italian and French service: from Rome and Cagliari to Lyon and Pula.

Irisbus Europolis versions

  • Europolis city bus: the standard low-floor midibus used by the operators listed here.

Larger buses in the same range were the Irisbus CityClass and the Irisbus Citelis. More buses are in the Irisbus collection.
