History of the Hyosung RX125

The RX125 was Hyosung’s small dual-purpose model, a machine designed to work on tarmac and easy trails alike. It was produced from 1998 until 2009 and exported widely: the bike was sold in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania, which made it one of the firm’s more international small models.

In some markets the same motorcycle carried the XRX125 name. Its engine was a 125 cc single-cylinder unit with a single overhead camshaft, cooled by both air and oil, producing a maximum of 9 kW at 8,500 rpm. That is a modest output, in keeping with the bike’s role as a light, simple all-rounder rather than a focused off-road machine.

In Brazil the RX125 was assembled from CKD kits by Kasinski Motos and sold under that badge; the company later closed. The arrangement was typical of the period, when South Korean small-capacity designs were assembled locally in South America to avoid import duties.

The RX125 belongs to the same period as Hyosung’s other small machines, including the GT125 road bike and the Exceed scooter, but it was the only one of them intended for unsealed roads.

Design and features

  • Dual-purpose layout: built for road use with enough suspension travel for easy off-road work.
  • Simple single: a 125 cc SOHC engine cooled by air and oil, with little to go wrong.
  • Two names: RX125 or XRX125 depending on the market.
  • Wide export reach: sold on four continents over an eleven-year run.

Hyosung RX125 versions

  • RX125: the standard model.
  • XRX125: the same motorcycle under its alternative market name.
  • Kasinski-built bikes: assembled in Brazil from CKD kits and sold under the Kasinski badge.

Other small Hyosungs of the same years are the GT125 and the MS1 125 Exceed scooter. More models are in the Hyosung collection.
