History of the Honda NC

A new concept

The NC700 series is classed as a commuter bike that incorporates design and mechanical elements from various motorcycle types. The riding position is similar to a standard bike, and the traditional fuel tank location conceals a helmet-sized storage compartment, with the actual fuel tank under the seat. The series is marketed as fun to ride, easy to handle and very fuel efficient.

Models

The NC700S is the basic model with naked bike styling; the NC700SA adds a combined anti-lock braking system and the NC700SD has a dual clutch transmission that lets the rider choose manual or automatic shifting. The NC700X draws on both road and dual-sport styling and was released in late 2011 in Europe; the NC700XA adds combined ABS and the NC700XD has the DCT. Cycle World chose the NC700X as Best Standard Motorcycle for 2012.

NC750 and updates

In Europe, Australia and Canada, 745 cc variants have been available as the NC750S and NC750X from the 2014 model year, with a slightly larger 77 mm bore producing 40.3 kW and 68 Nm. For 2016 the NC750S and NC750X received LED headlights and taillights, a new EU4-compliant exhaust, a new dashboard and revised DCT software with a three-level S mode. The NC750X gained traction control as standard for 2018, the year it was introduced to the United States with either DCT or a conventional gearbox.

Design and features

  • Helmet compartment: where the fuel tank normally sits.
  • Under-seat tank: the packaging trick that makes the storage possible.
  • Dual clutch transmission: optional on S and X models.
  • Efficiency focus: designed as an everyday commuter.
