History of the Honda CBF1000

A softer Fireblade

The CBF1000 was first available in March 2006, produced mainly for Europe. Its chief designer, Ishu Akari, targeted riders over 30 who wanted smooth, progressive acceleration with a relaxed riding position and easy handling. Compared with the high-revving CBR1000RR engine, the CBF1000 has a more level power delivery suited to touring and to relatively inexperienced riders: peak power and torque are lower, but power and torque are higher in the lower rev range.

Practical equipment

The bike has programmed fuel injection, an optional anti-lock braking system and a standard combined half-fairing. Handlebars, seat height and screen height are adjustable. The CBF1000GT version adds a full lower fairing, panniers and a top box.

The 2010 CBF1000F

A new design released in 2010 brought an aluminium frame instead of steel, a four-into-one exhaust replacing the original four-into-two, new digital instrument panels and a redesigned fairing and screen. Power increased while weight and fuel consumption fell.

Design and features

  • Fireblade-derived engine: 998 cc tuned for mid-range rather than peak power.
  • Adjustable ergonomics: bars, seat and screen height all adjust.
  • GT pack: lower fairing, panniers and top box.
  • Aluminium frame from 2010: lighter and stiffer than the original steel chassis.

Honda CBF1000 versions

  • CBF1000 (2006): steel frame and four-into-two exhaust.
  • CBF1000GT: touring pack with luggage and lower fairing.
  • CBF1000F (2010): aluminium frame, four-into-one exhaust, more power.

The CBF1000 is the touring relative of the CBR1000RR and sits between the CBF125 and the VFR800. More Hondas are in the Honda collection.
