History of the Honda Aviator

A premium 110

HMSI launched the Aviator in India in 2008 as a more upmarket alternative in the 110 cc scooter class, sold with the slogan Live Your Style. It used a four-stroke, air-cooled single-cylinder engine with Honda’s V-Matic continuously variable transmission.

Equipment and updates

The Deluxe version came with a 190 mm front disc brake and a 12-inch front alloy wheel, which Honda claimed improved stability and braking. In 2009 HMSI announced combined braking and BS-III readiness, and in July 2018 an updated Aviator gained an LED headlamp and position lamp, a revised instrument console and a 4-in-1 lock with seat opener.

End of the line

The Aviator won Scooter of the Year at the NDTV Profit Car and Bike Awards 2009, but it remained overshadowed by Honda’s higher-volume scooters. During the industry’s move to BS6 emissions in 2020 it was removed from HMSI’s website along with other models that had not been updated, and Honda replaced it with a new premium 110 cc product.

  • Premium positioning: above Honda’s entry-level Indian scooters.
  • Front disc and 12-inch wheel: Deluxe equipment for better braking and stability.
  • Combi-brake: introduced with the 2009 update.
  • LED lighting: added in the 2018 revision.
