History of the Fuso Super Great

First generation (1996–2017)

The Super Great replaced The Great in June 1996. A driver’s airbag and a wheel parking brake were fitted from 2000. The cab was heavily facelifted and, in 2007, the truck received an AdBlue urea selective catalytic reduction system based on UD Trucks technology, the same approach used by the Nissan Diesel Quon.

Second generation (2017)

The second generation appeared in April 2017, keeping the doors, some cabin panels and part of the interior of the first. Standard equipment included LED projector headlamps, a new four-spoke steering wheel, an integrated instrument cluster, an improved 12-speed automated manual transmission branded SHIFTPILOT and a multi-function key with push-button start. Safety equipment covered Active Brake Assist, an Active Attention Assistant that warns when the driver’s attention drops, a lane departure warning system and Proximity Control Assist with side guard assist. Fuso says the Super Great was the first commercial vehicle in Japan to carry such advanced driver assistance; sales in Japan began later in 2017.

2023 facelift

In 2023 the truck was facelifted for the 2024 model year with new headlights, an all-new engine, revised design and a new interior. The engine is the 12.8-litre 6R30 turbocharged and intercooled diesel, rated at 394–421 PS and 2,000–2,100 Nm. It meets the JH25 heavy-duty fuel efficiency standard, and the safety package grew to Active Brake Assist 6, Active Sideguard Assist 2 and a Front Blindspot Information System. The facelifted truck is offered only with a rigid chassis, in FS and FU grades and with wing box or dump truck bodies.
