History of the Ferrari F12berlinetta
V12 and chassis

The F12berlinetta uses a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 of the F140 family that produces 740 PS and 690 N·m, the most powerful Ferrari road car ever when it was launched. It won the 2013 International Engine of the Year award in the Best Performance category. The engine is more efficient than the 599’s, with a HELE start-stop system, and Ferrari reports 18 mpg (15.7 L/100 km), a 30% improvement. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox has shortened gear ratios to match the power.
Aerodynamics and control
The aluminium space frame was co-developed with Scaglietti and uses 12 different aluminium alloys, improving rigidity by 20% and saving 70 kg over the 599 while lowering the centre of gravity by about 25 mm. Ferrari fitted third-generation CCM3 carbon-ceramic brakes, SCM-E magnetorheological suspension, an electronic differential and the Manettino dial. The aerodynamics come from 599XX and Formula One work, with a notable Aero Bridge, an air channel running from the bonnet through the flanks and along the sides. In 2014 the car was awarded the XXIII Premio Compasso d’Oro ADI.
